| | Hello paul de GoNOMAD's Travels last month: The Island of Losinj, Croatia In April we made an escape flying from Venice Italy to the glorious sunny island of Losinj, Croatia. It's a former playground of the Austro-Hungarian royalty, and today boasts many five-star hotels, and some of the tastiest olive oil and seafood I've ever eaten. And they just opened a new museum in Mali Losinj to house a statue from 200 BC CROATIA! Where are you going for your next great getaway? Email us and we'll send you a GoNOMAD story about that destination!

| Getting to Know Mumbai by the Bite I'm a bit of a foodie and am partial to experiencing new cuisines in exotic locations – which puts Mumbai's street food, sold by hawkers from portable stalls, right up there. Wherever you find a cluster of people, you're guaranteed to find a fleet of street food vendors who find business opportunities everywhere - from crowded railway stations and colleges to high-rise office blocks and the city's favorite night spots. | Palm Springs California: Mid-Century Majesty The first thing we saw was the headquarters for a big annual Palm Springs event—Modernism Week. That's truly the essence of the city, the hundreds of classic 1950s and '60s low, flat houses that were once the playgrounds of movie stars and musicians that today are like a wonderful outdoor museum. Above, Frank Sinatra's house in the city. CHECK OUT PALM SPRINGS CALIFORNIA |
| Durban, South Africa: High and Low Cuisine and Art Galleries In-Between The hotel is like a Merchant/Ivory film: red-and-white striped cushions on sofas and chairs at the pool terrace where monkeys cavort in the awnings; a string of fans gently moving the air over the white-topped Oyster Bar set with large glass containers filled with seashells; solar-topee clad staff greeting guests on arrival and a highly polished black- and- white checkerboard floor. | Biking "Death Road" in Bolivia It had begun innocently, a neatly paved stretch of highway, me the frontrunner, almost forty and out-clocking the group of twenty-somethings by a respectable distance. As I cruised along Yungas Road, I considered its dramatic renaming and decided it was simply a clever marketing ploy to make a few bucks off of tourists. RIDE IT! |
| Fishing in Dalian, China Trading a gift of booze for a ride in the boat "I will not get in your way, and just want to have a look," I said as I gave them a little peak of a nice bottle of baijiu (a Chinese high proof spirit) that I said was all theirs. Lucky for me, curiosity and booze won them over. As the cigarettes got stomped out they said just be careful on the boat. I said, safety first and both of them nodded |
